MarTERA ERA-NET - Proposals

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) is seeking to suggest suitable candidates to participate in the scientific evaluation of transnational research proposals under the MarTERA ERA-NET Co-Fund call.

Candidates must have expertise in at least one of the following areas (in the context of marine and maritime technologies):

·         Emissions reduction

·         Energy efficiency

·         Innovative propulsion systems

·         Noise and vibration reduction

·         Biofouling and corrosion prevention

·         Novel materials

·         Structures

·         Deep Sea Mining

·         Improved models for marine vehicles and structures behaviour

Please note that you should not apply as an evaluator if you are part of a consortium that has submitted a research project proposal under the 2017 MarTERA ERA-NET Co-Fund Call.

 

Candidates will be suggested on the basis of their academic merit and experience in the field.

 

The details of the selected candidates will be forwarded to the MarTERA call office which will then decide on the participation of the candidates in the evaluation of transnational research proposals according to their needs. The selection of evaluators from the list of candidates is thus at MarTERA’s sole discretion. Call for FUSION: The Research & Innovation Commercialisation Voucher Programme is now open

The Malta Council for Science and Technology is inviting new applications for funding under the FUSION Commercialisation Voucher Programme. The deadline is noon on the 19th June 2017. 

The Commercialisation Voucher Programme is another instrument aimed at bridging the existing gap in the R&I framework as well as improving the overall development and commercialization potential of innovative ideas. This Programme is to act as a demand side measure and entice user driven innovation, with the ultimate aim of increasing research, technological development and innovation activities, which can eventually be implemented in industry. The Vouchers are primarily intended to assist prospective applicants of the FUSION Technology Development Programme in order to prepare themselves better in terms of project proposal and validation. In some cases it may also assist beneficiaries of previous or current R&I Programmes as well as projects funded through the European Programmes. 

Submission, evaluation and selection of application will be in the form of a one-stage process in which a legal representative of the applicant will be asked to submit all the necessary information, to enable a decision on acceptance or rejection. The Commercialisation Vouchers are subject to a Scientific Evaluation and priority will be given to the Smart Specialisation Areas. State Aid rules apply.

Interested parties should submit their application form electronically to voucher.mcst@gov.mt with ''Commercialisation Vouchers Application Submission'' as a subject. The Application must be dated, signed and initialised (stamped or signed) on each page by the legal representative. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the timely and correct delivery of the application to the Council. It should be noted that emails larger than 6MB shall be automatically rejected by the system. All received applications shall be acknowledged by email or in writing.

Note to applicant as from this Call:

The application form follows a pre-determined editable pdf template with fixed font and margin size. 
Altering the parameters of the template will automatically lead to disqualification. Text should not exceed the printable area of the text boxes. 
Annex I (optional) can be used to include a clear diagrammatic representation of how the project will go beyond the state-of-the-art. Annex I should be stamped or signed by the Legal Representative and scanned together with the application form.

JRC Malta Young Scientist Award

Details:

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) is receiving proposals under the JRC Malta Young Scientist Award. The aim of this award is to showcase the efforts of Maltese young scientists to the JRC. 
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which provides independent scientific advice and support to EU policy. Its work has a direct impact on the lives of citizens by contributing with its research outcomes to a healthy and safe environment, secure energy supplies, sustainable mobility and consumer health and safety. 
JRC Awards will be selected by MCST through a two phase process. Six young scientists from Malta (one per each thematic unit) will be selected for the award. They will visit the JRC Ispra site for 2.5 days in May or June 2017. The JRC Award will cover the costs for the flight and accommodation for the respective visit. The event programme will include; 
• A general overview of JRC as the science and knowledge service of the European Commission, 
• Presentation of the visitor's projects to JRC scientists, 
• "Shadowing" of a JRC scientist according to the individual fields of interest, 
• Visits of some of the main JRC laboratories in Ispra, 

Interested Applicants are to submit their application documents electronically to jrc.mcst@gov.mt keeping melchior.cini@gov.mt in copy, with “JRC Malta Young Scientist Award” as a subject heading. Applications should be received by not later than Friday 28th of April 2017 at 5pm (GMT +1). All submissions should be initialised or stamped on each page of the application form and a full signature by the applicant and head of entity on page 5 of the application form. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Only one application per scientist may be submitted and will be evaluated by MCST.

MARTERA - Transnational Call for Research & Innovation Projects in Maritime and Marine Technologies

Details:

The overall goal of the ERA-NET Cofund MarTERA is to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) in maritime and marine technologies as well as Blue Growth. The consortium will organise and co-fund, together with the European Commission under Horizon 2020, a joint call for transnational research and innovation projects on different thematic priority areas.

This call has a budget of 30 million euros which will be provided by national and regional funding ministries and organisations from 16 countries, including support from Horizon 2020, for collaborative research and innovation projects in the following areas:

• Priority Area 1: Environmentally friendly maritime technologies
• Priority Area 2: Development of novel materials and structures
• Priority Area 3: Sensors, automation, monitoring and observations
• Priority Area 4: Advanced manufacturing and production
• Priority Area 5: Safety and security


Call is currently open and deadline for preproposal submission is on the 31 March 2017 (17:00 CET).

A brokerage event is also taking place to help participants in finding suitable project partners.

EMPIR Call 2017

Details:

EURAMET e.V. has launched a Call within the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) addressing the topic areas ‘Metrology for Industry’, ‘Fundamental Metrology’, ‘Metrology Research for Pre- and Co-normative projects’ and ‘Research Potential' on 10 January 2017.

Please draw attention to your stakeholders the opportunity to submit potential research topics in order to prioritise the research for metrology in the fields. Feel free to circulate this information as your relevant National Contact Points may find this Call of interest.

Stage 1 of the Call is for Potential Research Topics (PRTs), open from 10 January 2017 to 20 February 2017.

Stage 2 of the Call is for Joint Research Projects (JRPs), will open on 15 June 2017 to 02 October 2017.

EURAMET will issue a Call for Support for Impact projects designed to increase the impact from completed iMERA-Plus and EMRP projects open from 25 July 2017 to 25 September 2017.

Whilst the EMPIR is executed primarily by the national metrology institutes and designated institutes of the participating countries, all interested parties are invited to submit potential topics in Stage 1. Opportunities for wider participation also exist at Stage 2.
