EXCEL Winter School


If you're passionate about urban mobility and eager to learn in the beautiful setting of Gozo in Malta, embark on a journey of knowledge and discovery.

EXCEL Winter School, co-funded by EIT Urban Mobility, invites bachelor students who are at least in their second year of education to a transformative learning experience. The online preparatory week kicks off in December 2023, followed by a study visit in Gozo, Malta between 12th February and 16th February 2024, covering expenses for travel, accommodation, and meals.

Participants dive into innovation and entrepreneurship in urban mobility, collaborating with experts and stakeholders to develop impactful ventures.

Since every journey starts with taking the first step, we invite all eligible students from RIS countries to apply for a place among the forty students who will join their peers in the EXCEL Winter School

Before you proceed with the application form, please review the main eligibility criteria you must be aware of:

- You are resident of one of the following EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) countries:

  • EU Member States: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia
  • Horizon Europe Associated Countries: Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye, Ukraine
  • Outermost Regions: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion, Martinique, Mayotte and Saint-Martin (France), the Azores and Madeira (Portugal), and the Canary Islands (Spain).

- You are a student who is at least in their 2nd year of bachelor's education (students from Masters and Doctoral programs are not eligible to apply).

- Your academic background is in Engineering, Information Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering Statistics, Geoinformation Technology, Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, Software Engineering.

The recruitment of students for the EXCEL Winter School is divided into two rounds.

Round 1: Students fill this application form and submit it with their CV and Motivation Letter. Fifty candidates will be shortlisted and will be invited to continue to the second round.

Round 1 application deadline is extended: 11.12.2023.

Round 2: The shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit an essay on a topic, related to urban mobility.

Acceptance letters: After the evaluation of Round 2 is complete forty students will receive an acceptance letter to the EXCEL Winter School.

All students who applied to the EXCEL Winter School will receive a notification about the results from the evaluation.

From November 17th till the 1st of December 2023 we hosted a total of three webinars, dedicated to the EXCEL Winter School, the educational opportunities, provided by EIT Urban Mobility and the details of the application process. The recordings form for the Webinars are available HERE.
