Funding Opportunity for Malta-based Researchers in Water Management, Farming Systems & Agro-Food Value Chain – Apply Now!

Malta-based entities are eligible to apply for up to € 500,000 in funding, allowing them to join a consortium and submit a proposal for this Call (N.B. if multiple national partners are included in a single consortium, the total funding for all Maltese participants combined cannot exceed the €500,000 cap).

Xjenza Malta, in collaboration with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), has launched the 5th Xjenza Malta-TÜBİTAK 2025 Joint Call for R&I Proposals. This initiative aims to foster cooperation in science, technology, and innovation between Malta and Turkey by supporting researchers and innovators in strengthening their scientific expertise and networks.

This Call will focus on two distinct pillars:

Pillar 1: PRIMA Thematic Areas

  1. Management of Water
  2. Farming System
  3. Agro-Food Value Chain

Pillar 2: Shared National Priority areas:

  1. Smart Manufacturing
  2. Health
  3. Aviation

PRIMA Networking Support Scheme (NET2PRIMA)

Xjenza Malta is receiving proposals under the PRIMA Networking Support Scheme (NET2PRIMA). This initiative is designed to strengthen networking opportunities and foster collaboration in the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA), and thus to support R&I in the areas of water management, farming systems and agro-food value chain.

PRIMA is a joint EU program uniting 20 Euro-Mediterranean countries, including:

  • 12 EU Member States: Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain.
  • 8 non-EU countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey.

Are you seeking funding to enhance your training and mobility activities? The PRIMA Training and Mobility Award 2025 is open for applications, offering an excellent opportunity to establish collaborative links with foreign counterparts from any of the 20 PRIMA Participating States.

Funding Opportunities:

  • In-person short training and/or placements for local researchers in foreign entities,
  • Strategic and targeted visits by local applicants to foreign entities,
  • Knowledge-transfer and/or dissemination seminars or workshops in Malta, on specific PRIMA R&I thematic areas (water management, sustainable farming systems, and agro-food value chain).

DRG4FOOD 2024 Call

The heart of the DRG4Food project beats for responsible data-driven solutions that empower people, champion data rights, and drive the creation of sustainable food systems. Our focus is on catalyzing data-driven innovation in the food industry, all while staying aligned with Digital Responsibility Goals and principles.

The open call welcomes multidisciplinary consortia of 2-3 entities, including startups, SMEs, research organizations, universities, technology adopters, and users in the food sector, particularly NGOs and consumer associations. Each consortium must consist of 2 to 3 partners from at least two different countries, with one partner required to be from an EU member state. Consortia are expected to demonstrate the ability to develop data-driven solutions that align with Digital Responsibility Goals and actively involve end-users in defining technical requirements and enhancing pilot project activities.…

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) launched the 4th MCST-TÜBİTAK 2024 Joint Call for R&I Proposals to support cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation in the following thematic areas:

  • PRIMA Programme Thematic fields (Water management, Sustainable Farming systems, Agro-food value chain)
  • Digital Technologies
  • Smart Manufacturing
  • Health

Malta-based entities and Türkiye-based entities are invited to jointly apply for funding to undertake a R&I project in these thematic areas.

This Call involves a one-stage submission process, and the complete submission documentation needs to be received by the 14th June 2024 (23:59 CET).

EIT Food is looking for startups, scale-ups and small or medium size organizations participate in EIT Food “RIS Straight to Market (RIS S2M)” programme.

The RIS Straight to Market is coordinated by EIT Food South and seeks connect retailers with small and medium-sized companies, startups and scale-ups, to bring to mainstream markets and supermarkets food products that are new or highly improved at a nutritional/sustainable level (see definition below).

SynergistEIC Call 1 for GreenTech Statups

SynergistEIC is an EU-funded project that started in January 2023 with an overall budget of €1,986M to help European deep tech startups, scaleups and SMEs from the GreenTech sector to scale in the EU and globally. Throughout its 2-year duration SynergistEIC will hold 2 Open Calls selecting and supporting 30 companies, providing them with a combination of financial support, advisory services, and connections with the broader innovation ecosystem.

Up to € 50,000 per startup will be distributed in Open Call 1.
