Funding Opportunity for Malta-based Researchers in Water Management, Farming Systems & Agro-Food Value Chain – Apply Now!

Malta-based entities are eligible to apply for up to € 500,000 in funding, allowing them to join a consortium and submit a proposal for this Call (N.B. if multiple national partners are included in a single consortium, the total funding for all Maltese participants combined cannot exceed the €500,000 cap).

PRIMA Participating States fund transnational R&I projects addressing the scope and objectives of the PRIMA Section 2 multi-topic call tackling the following topics:

PRIMA Networking Support Scheme (NET2PRIMA)

Xjenza Malta is receiving proposals under the PRIMA Networking Support Scheme (NET2PRIMA). This initiative is designed to strengthen networking opportunities and foster collaboration in the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA), and thus to support R&I in the areas of water management, farming systems and agro-food value chain.

PRIMA is a joint EU program uniting 20 Euro-Mediterranean countries, including:

  • 12 EU Member States: Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain.
  • 8 non-EU countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey.

Are you seeking funding to enhance your training and mobility activities? The PRIMA Training and Mobility Award 2025 is open for applications, offering an excellent opportunity to establish collaborative links with foreign counterparts from any of the 20 PRIMA Participating States.

Funding Opportunities:

  • In-person short training and/or placements for local researchers in foreign entities,
  • Strategic and targeted visits by local applicants to foreign entities,
  • Knowledge-transfer and/or dissemination seminars or workshops in Malta, on specific PRIMA R&I thematic areas (water management, sustainable farming systems, and agro-food value chain).

PRIMA – Partnership for R&I in the Mediterranean – facilitates collaborative R&I in the areas of Water Management, Farming Systems and Agro-Food Chain.

PRIMA Participating States fund transnational R&I projects addressing the scope and objectives of the PRIMA Section 2 multi-topic call tackling the following topics:

Thematic Area 1: Water Management

  • Topic 2.1.1 (RIA) New governance models to define best practices for sustainable water management and conflict mitigation.

Thematic Area 2: Farming Systems

  • Topic 2.2.1 (RIA) A step toward carbon-neutral farms: coupling renewable energy sources with circular farming systems.

PRIMA Proposal Writing Assistance Scheme (IPAS+ Option D)

Source of Funding: Malta Council for Science and Technology

Malta-based applicants who will coordinate a project addressing a Section 1 or Section 2 topic featured in the PRIMA Annual Work Plan 2023 have the opportunity of engaging a service provider who can support them through the pre- / full proposal writing and/or submission stages.

Submission deadlines are as follows:

  • Assistance with PRIMA Section 1 proposals – 1st March 2023 (23:59 CET)
  • Assistance with PRIMA Section 2 proposals – 8th March 2023 (23:59 CET)
