Science in the City is Malta’s national science and arts festival, commencing on the 26th – 27th of September 2025. We provide a unique platform for the community, with scientists, researchers, artists and performers all coming together, to engage with the public and advocate for positive change through active citizenship and critical thinking.
“Past Forward” is the 2025 theme for the SitC festival. Combining science and the arts with history, we explore how research and innovations from the past have shaped the world we know today – and how they can help us create a better future.
Since 2012, SitC has held an annual science and arts festival, which has been growing in scale and vision ever since. Starting from 12,000 attendees in 2012, and growing to a staggering 33,000 in 2024 — we have reached over 6% of the total population of the Maltese Islands. With 600 volunteers, 90 organisations, and 80 researchers, the number of activities have more than tripled, and we even have several international acts! None of this would have been possible without our core team and you – the public.
Each year we aim to broaden participation across all parts of society, aiming to inspire more people to connect and feel empowered by research. This is what helps our festival become more accessible and representative of our communities – showcasing people from all walks of life.
