The Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST) together with The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR), and in consultation with the Malta Chamber of SMEs launched the Research Fellowship Scheme on campus in Paola.
The aim of the scheme is to provide financial support for Research Fellowships fostering joint Research & Innovation Projects between economic stakeholders and MCAST in the following areas: Smart Manufacturing, Sustainable use of Resources for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, and Future Digital Technologies.
The scheme shall be providing a maximum €150,000 financial aid for research projects and each researcher will benefit from up to a maximum of 30,000 Euros.

As the farming community around the Mediterranean Region is experiencing the impacts of climate change, characterized by reduced rainfall, higher temperatures leading to increased evapotranspiration, as well as a more frequent occurrence of prolonged droughts, the importance of tackling this challenge has become all the more urgent. The event brought together stakeholders in the agricultural and water sector, including local farmers and researchers also from Jordan and Turkey.

The Malta Bus Reborn, designed by London and Malta-based architecture firm Mizzi Studio is a finalist in the EU: New European Bauhaus (NEB) Prizes 2024.
In 2019, Mizzi Studio unveiled designs for a new electric bus fleet for Malta, marrying zero-emissions technology with the charm of the iconic traditional Art-Deco Maltese buses. The project’s ethos aimed at reimagining a legacy design, restoring its heritage value and igniting new awareness around climate-resilient transport and net-zero mobility; placing culture and community at the heart of climate action.

The SINO-MALTA fund originated from an initial agreement between the Government of Malta and the Government of the People's Republic of China in the realm of Science and Technological Cooperation which later, through the work of the Joint Committee for the cooperation, developed into the Fund that is managed by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in China.
The 2023 Call for Proposals of the Fund marked a significant milestone, representing the 5th iteration of the Fund, which was commemorated by an expansion of the Fund’s budget, resulting in the funding of six projects, with approximately EUR 1,200,000 in funds from the Maltese side that was matched by the Chinese side, within the areas of Health, Digital Technologies and the Blue and Green Economy Transitions.

Resistance of Salmonella and Campylobacter bacteria to commonly used antimicrobials continues to be observed frequently in humans and animals, according to a report issued today by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The SIDec (‘Enhancing Speech Imagery Decoding for EEG-based Brain-Computer Interface Systems’) project officially kicked-off on Thursday 18 January 2024 at a meeting held between the Centre for Biomedical Cybernetics and the Malta Council of Science and Technology (MCST).
The core aim of SIDec is to improve the decoding of imagined speech from brain signals, such that words spoken by an individual in their mind can be deciphered with greater accuracy and consistency. This project will utilise electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, which can be recorded non-invasively using a cap with sensors that can easily be worn by the user. International collaboration and cooperation in Research and Innovation (R&I) play a pivotal role in boosting Malta’s R&I ecosystem.
