The call for applications for the 3rd edition of the EU Organic Awards is opening today and will run until 12 May 2024. The EU Organic Awards recognise different stakeholders along the organic value chain who have created an innovative, sustainable, and inspiring projects that have produced a real added value for the organic food production and consumption. The Awards ceremony is scheduled for 23 September 2024, which is EU Organic Day.
In the framework of the Earth Observation Applications activities, the EO for Sustainable Blue Economy project aims to develop innovative high-quality EO-based information products, indicators and methods, targeting specific high-priority matters raised by the international environment policy agenda and with a distinct connection to the European Union (EU) Green Deal.
The project aims at enabling sustainable Blue Economy by developing new products, indicators and tools to support local Blue Economic activities and monitor their impact on the marine environment. The project shall have a multi-sensor approach and integrate as necessary open non-EO data, in-situ measurements and model outputs.
Four contracts will be implemented, each contract targeting one among four possible themes:

On 20th March 2024, the Commission has adopted the second strategic plan for Horizon Europe. The plan, announced at the flagship Research and Innovation Days, sets out three key strategic orientations for EU's research and innovation funding for the last three years of the programme (2025-2027):

This month AquaBioTech Group hosted a workshop in collaboration with two of their funded research projects – FishEUTrust and PROFIUS. The workshop targeted industry and governance and aimed to get a better understanding of the Maltese seafood industry's needs and challenges, as well as to showcase innovative solutions for seafood traceability and valorising unused fish biomass after harvest. The Maltese consultancy company AquaBioTech Group is a major partner in a project that focuses on the development of an innovative farming system for the intense, yet sustainable, production of shrimps. The Malta Council for Science and Technology has launched five support schemes to encourage local companies, academics and researchers tap millions in EU funding for research and development.
The schemes all seek to increase Malta's participation in Horizon Europe, the largest research and innovation programme in Europe.
Addressing a news conference, Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti said the schemes are:
ERC Support Scheme – offering researchers the opportunity, and helping them, to access funds from the European Research Council;
Horizon Europe Networking Support Scheme – interested parties will be given funds to attend Horizon Europe networking events;
