The European Partnership on One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (EUP OHAMR) unites 53 organisations from 30 countries across Europe and beyond. By adopting a One Health approach, the partnership recognises that the health of humans, animals, plants, and the environment are deeply interconnected. Together, participating countries are investing in collaborative research to develop effective, sustainable solutions to combat AMR.

Transforming Health and Care Systems (THCS) Partnership is a multilateral strategic initiative under Horizon Europe, aimed at fostering the transition towards more sustainable, efficient, resilient, inclusive, innovative and high-quality people-centred health and care systems equally accessible to all.

Xjenza Malta together with other Research Funding Organisations from 26 countries, has launched the 4th Joint Transnational Call to financially support R&I projects. Entities based in Malta are eligible to apply for up to €500,000 in funding, enabling them to join a consortium and submit a proposal for this Call (N.B. if multiple national partners are included in a single consortium, the total funding for all Maltese participants combined cannot exceed the €500,000 cap).

JPI Oceans Blue Carbon Ecosystems – Joint Transnational Call 2025

JPI Oceans Joint Transnational Call 2025 on Blue Carbon Ecosystems is now officially open, aiming to support research that addresses critical knowledge gaps in the understanding and management of blue carbon ecosystems. It focuses on advancing scientific insight into the processes that govern carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas fluxes in these ecosystems, and on generating evidence to inform effective policy and management responses.

National Participation

Xjenza Malta is proud to participate as one of the Research Funding Organisations launching this Call. Malta-based entities are eligible for funding of up to €150,000 per project to join international consortia addressing one (or more) of the following priority topics:

  • Carbon stocks and fluxes at local and regional scales

The Technology Development Programme (TDP) is a national funding programme designed to support research, development, and innovation (RDI) through strong collaboration between public entities and industry partners.

The main objective of TDP is to accelerate the development of innovative products and services, enabling them to progress from a minimum Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4 to TRL 7 within the project lifecycle.

Successful applicants may benefit from funding of up to €500,000 for projects with a duration of 24 to 36 months, within the following SMART Specialisation Areas:

  • Aviation and Aerospace

  • Future Digital Technology

A Call for Practical Demonstrations of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus in the Mediterranean

he principal aim of WEFE4MED is to promote a W(ater)E(nergy)F(ood)E(cosystems) Nexus-oriented approach to sustainable development in the Mediterranean region. Over the course of the last three years, the consortium behind this project have also sought to build a thriving Nexus Community of Practice (NCoP). 

A central component of this Community is a collection of demonstration sites located across the Mediterranean basin which showcase the utility and socio-economic viability of the WEFE Nexus.

Additional Financial Support for Malta-Based Researchers Requesting Ship Time on the Research Vessel Gaia Blu

Xjenza Malta is providing additional financial support to Malta-based entities collaborating with the Italian National Research Council (CNR) for access to ship time aboard the Research Vessel Gaia Blu in the two-year period 2026-2027.

The R/V Gaia Blu offers a platform for conducting advanced marine research, varying from oceanographic surveys, environmental monitoring, long-term data collection, and educational or outreach-focused cruises. Researchers can propose a variety of projects on several research fields as highlighted in the CNR Application Form.
